The historical town of Lahaina, Hawaii was established in 1820 as the capital of Hawaii on the island of Maui. The first constitution of the Kingdom of Hawaii was signed by King Kamehameha in Lahaina, where he resided. The Lahaina Banyan Tree was a gift from missionaries in India, the tree was planted in Lahaina on April 24, 1873.
